Accessing your email using a 3rd party email client
Our customers can access their email through a third party email client such as Outlook, We currently support two different types of email client:
- IMAP
- POP
The type that you choose to set up may depend on how you access your email. For example if you if you want to access your email from more than one computer, then IMAP as supported in Outlook 2003 will enable you to view the same messages on both machines, whereas pop would download your messages to either one machine or another. In order to send and receive emails from your email client, you will need the following information:
- Your user name. usually this is the same as your full email address. i.e. your name @yourdomain.com
- Your password
- Incoming mail server. This is usually mail.yourdomain.com
- Outgoing mail server. This can be the same as your incoming mail server but will depend on your Internet Service Provider, as many ISP but a block on using and outgoing email server other than there own. This is designed to reduce spam and other unsolicited emails etc. Depending on your ISP, you may also need a user-name and password in order to send emails. Some ISP may even specify a different port number as-well. For further information and clarification on what outgoing mail server that you can use please contact your ISP.
Mail Configuration Ports
When you configure your computer for email access, you may want to know what are the correct port settings are. These currently are as follows:
smtp: 25
smtps: 464
pop3: 110
pop3s: 995
imap: 143
imaps: 993
